How to get a temporary residence permit (TRP)
in Azerbaijan?

       Temporary residence permit (TRP in Azerbaijan) – is a document, that confirms that its owner is a foreign citizen who has the right to live in Azerbaijan for a certain period of time, freely leave and enter the Republic of Azerbaijan. TRP in Azerbaijan is issued by the State Migration Service of Azerbaijan.

Benefits of TRP in Azerbaijan

       Comparing to the temporary registration, temporary residence permit gives you a free status for a certain period, you will have more rights and fewer restrictions. Here is what you can do after obtaining a temporary residence permit in Azerbaijan:

  1. Live in Azerbaijan for the entire duration of the TRP.
  2. Move freely throughout all the country.
  3. If you entered Azerbaijan on a visa, now you can cross the border with a passport and a residence permit.
  4. Further social benefits will be available to you, you will be able to save a pension.
  5. Work without additional permits & licenses (if you applied for TRP on a work basis or have a Permanent Residency).

Legal basis for obtaining a temporary residency in Azerbaijan

   Foreigners are issued permit for temporary residence in the Republic of Azerbaijan in the following cases:

Required documents for temporary residence permit

   According to the temporary residency basis, required documents can vary. Generally, you will need the following documents:
   – Application form;
   
– 2 photos sized 3.5 x 4.5 sm;
   – Passport copy;
   – Medical reference;
   – Visa copy (if any);
   – Document confirming existence of cases justifying issuance of temporary residence permit (you can get the list here);
   – Notarized consent of a family member residing in Azerbaijan on the basis of a temporary/permanent residence permit;
   – Document of a residential area where the person shall be registered;
   – Landlord’s notarized consent;
   – Notarized copy of the landlord’s ID;
   – Receipt certifying payment of the state fee.

Where to apply for TPR?

   To apply for a temporary residence permit, you must collect the required documents (listed above) and submit them to the nearest Migration Service office or ASAN center.
    If all documents are in order and have been accepted by Migration Service staff, you will receive a notification that your documents are being reviewed.
   The review period is 15-20 days, but in practice, it may take longer.

You must reside in Azerbaijan for 90 out of 180 days.

Yes. To clarify any ambiguities in your application and to verify the documents and information provided, the Migration Service may request the necessary information.

It is necessary to clarify the basis for the residence permit denial. If the case is promising, it may be possible to appeal the decision to the Migration Service’s appellate court or to the court.

Yes. A work permit is not required if you are married to an Azerbaijani citizen or have received permanent residency.
